Title |
Lead Musket Ball |
||
Description |
English: Two lead musket balls (lead shot), Post-Medieval. One is of a mid grey colour, well formed with a very fine trace of the mould join 0.25mm wide. Across the join is a flattened circular area, possibly where the pimple formed as a result of moulding was filed off, of 4.28mm in diameter. The ball has a diameter of 10.98mm and weighs 7.53g. The other musket ball is white or very pale grey in colour and poorly formed in comparison to the darker one. The mould join is much wider 1.30mm. The two halves do not match, being askew with the top half jutting out over the edge of the other on one side by c.0.33mm. Across the mould join is a pimple of 4.51mm diameter and 1.56mm high, this pimple has no specific shape. The ball has a diameter of 11.09mm and weighs 8.15g. Probably 16th – 18th century in date. |
