Rev. D Eliot

Dear Sir

I had a interview with Gen. Halleck last evening, who leaves here this morning (or has left) for the [word unclear].

He asked many questions; and in the end I told him I could refer him to a gentleman in St. Louis whose information and suggestions would be valuable— naming yourself.

I beg, now, that, [two words unclear], you will have the goodness

to call on the general, saying you do so at my request, and proffer your aid, you good word, in the great course of the nation.

I hope to shake hands with you in a few weeks.

With great respect

Yours very truly

E A Hitchcock

P.S. Gen. Hamilton, grand-son of the great Alexander, is with Genl. Halleck

Genl E. A. Hitchcock

Ansd [Answered] Nov. 22.
