English: Asks if tickets are needed to enter the University on the evening of February 22, and suggests that the newspapers announce whether tickets are needed or the event is open to all. States that he would like to stop at Eliot's house on his way out of town.
Transcription: Headquarters Army of the United States, St. Louis, Mo. Feb 19 1876 Saturday Revd W. G. Eliot, Dear Sir, Several persons— mostly officers have Enquired of me. if it needed tickets to enter the University on the Eving [evening] of Feb 22. And as I remember to have received such a ticket on former occasions. I must Enquire of you. If as I understand so far as the Lecture is concerned the Hall will be open to all. Would it not be well to have the Eving paper of Monday and moring [morning] paper of Tuesday announce the fact. And distinguish between the Lecture and the Banquet which latter is of course limited to special guests— I propose to stop at your house on my way out, [word unclear] leave[?] this if you are out Yrs trly.
