Summary[edit]

Description
English: Property marker at 11 New Square, Lincoln's Inn. The text has been repainted many times over three centuries, and some letters, mainly t's and l's, appear to have changed along the way. Based on the text appearing in the published edition of the Black Books (v.3, pg. 181 note), the text appearing on the stone, and the most reasonable translation, my reading of the Latin is:

Solum super quod hæc structura erigitur, ab australi parte hujus saxi 54 pedes cum pollice septentrionem versus continens, pertinet ad Societatem hanc. Ac etiam tota terræ portio ab hoc saxo orientem versus usque ad limitem veteris structura horto culinari proximum.

The first line of text, guilded, represents: 1691 Henry Long, Treasurer.

The most reasonable translation is:

The soil upon which this structure is erected, containing from the south side of this rock 54 feet with an inch towards the north, belongs to this Society. And also the whole portion of the ground from this rock towards the east to the boundary of the old structure next to the kitchen garden.
