Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Erie Canal Lock E12, on the Mohawk River at 177 Main Street, Tribes Hill, New York, is one of eight locks on the river which include a truss structure spanning the river which is used to raise and lower movable steel gates and uprights which dam the river or let it flow freely. This is done using electric-powered winches called "mules". Lock E12 has a lift of 11 feet: the upstream elevation is 278 feet, and the downstream is 267 feet. Only two of the eight truss structures carry roadways; this one carries Main Street from Tribes Hill to Fort Hunter. The towers keep mechanical and electrical equipment above water at flood stage.
