[edit]Celebrate Mass for Marine Killed in Action. Platoon Sergt. Louis Gargano, of the U. S. Marines, 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Spiro Gargano, 136 Avenue B,. Bayonne, was killed in action in the South Pacific four weeks ago, according to a telegram received by his parents Friday. He joined the marines in June, 1939, and he saw service in Hawaii, Guam, Cuba, and practically every other area over which floated the Stars and Stripes, He was in the same outfit as Lt. Thomas O'Neill, son of Chief of Police C. J. O'Neill of Bayonne, and the latter was near him when he fell. At St. Vincent de Paul's Roman Catholic Church, practically a stone's throw from Sergt. Gargano's home, and where he was a communicant, a solemn high memorial mass was said for him at 9 this morning. The young marine was born in Phillipsburg and was brought to Bayonne when he was a year old. He attended School 8, Junior High School and graduated from Technical High, qualifying as a tool land dye maker. He was thus employed by the Conmar Co., when he prior to participation in the inva-[decided to join the marines at the invasion of Guadalcanal. While in ;age of 19.
