M1/Sebille, Louis J./pho/1 80505 A.C.- First Medal of Honor Award for Korean Air Action The Air Force today announced that the Posthumous Award of the first Medal of Honor for Air Force action in Korea has been made to major Louis J. Sebille, shown standing beseide and F-80 "Shooting Star" prior to his assignment to Korea. The medal will be presented to the pilot's widow, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Sebille, of Chicago, Illinois, by Air Force Chief of Staff, General Hoyt S. Vandenburg at a ceremony to be held at March Air Force Base, Riverside, california, on August 24. Major Sebille, a native of Harbor Beach, MIchigan, wasa Commander of the 67th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Group, and was killed while flying an F-51 Mustang fighter plane during an attack on a concentration of enemy troops, artillery and armored vehiclese. After suffering damage to his aircraft from enemy gun batteries, he refused to abandon his plane or attempt to return to friendly lines. Despite the difficulty of maneuvering his disabled plane, Major Sebille continued to inflict severe damage to the enemy. His plane was seen to turn and dive at a steady angle with all guns blazing toward a group of armored vehicles. The aircraft disintegrated upon impact in the target area. Washington, D.C.
