Reformation altarpiece, Stadt- und Pfarrkirche St. Marien zu Wittenberg, right wing Deutsch: Johannes Bugenhagen Stadtpfarrer, Reformator und Beichtvater Martin Luthers, nimmt die Beichte ab. Vor ihm kniet ein bußfertiger Mann mit einer Mütze in der Hand, ein anderer rechts mit gefesselten (zusammengebundenen) Händen und einer prachtvollen Waffe (Dolch) scheint nicht bußfertig, ihm wird die Absolution nicht zuteil. Die beiden überdimensionalen Schlüssel in der Hand von Johannes Bugenhagen zeigen, „dass er in der Vollmacht eines Dieners der Kirche das ‚Amt des Schlüssels’ ausübt. |
