Description

Sir Richard Brydges, 1500 - 1558, was MP for Berkshire and Ludgershall. The family owned the manor in the 16th C.

He married twice, his second wife was Jane Spencer, they had 2 daughters and 3 sons. Jane remarried after Richard's death. The couple are shown as effigies on the tomb chest with four shields on the north side, and their children on the south (in the Chapel) including the pet dog. The top depicts cherubs riding on sea monsters, coats of arms and a male and female cameo.

The monument was restored in the 1970's.
