Title |
Lyre shaped buckle |
||
Description |
English: Copper-alloy 'lyre-shaped' strap-end with hollow end. The hollow end has a front and bevelled sides cast together, and a sheet back plate held on with solder and with two iron rivets. The front of the hollow end is decorated with black-letter initials (possibly W E). Beyond this is a concave waisted area, then a rounded transverse bar and an irregularly shaped incomplete terminal, probably openwork. The breaks are worn. The maximum width is 23.7 mm and the surviving length is 40.75mm; the maximum thickness is 5.47mm. It weighs 18.01g and is a dark blackish-brown patina. These buckles date to the 15th century. |
