Hebben protestanten ook relieken? In ieder geval bewaren ze eeuwenlang in deze kist zeer zorgvuldig de vertalingen ter voorbereiding van de Statenvertaling van 1637. Iedere drie jaar zijn ze gecontroleerd door afgevaardigden van de Staten-Generaal en van de Kerk. Dit gebeurt volgens een plechtig ceremonieel, voorafgegaan door gebed en besloten met dankzegging. Zo belangrijk achten de protestanten de oorspronkelijke stukken, waaraan de vertalers jarenlang hebben gewerkt. De oorspronkelijk archiefstukken zijn nu te vinden in Het Utrechts Archief.
