Description
Nederlands: Detail van de oorspronkelijke Wilhelminabrug in Maastricht in de jaren 1930. De hoofdpijler werd door de Haarlemse beeldhouwer Hendrik van den Eijnde (1869-1939) versierd met locale historische taferelen. Op de eerste pyloon (hier afgebeeld) kwamen voorstellingen van de intocht van de Romeinen over een brug, de intocht van Sint Servatius en de inval van de Noormannen. Op de tweede pyloon stonden afgebeeld: Hendrik I, hertog van Brabant, geeft toestemming de stadswallen te versterken 1229, de ondertekening van de Alde Caerte in 1284 en de intocht van Koning Willem I in 1815. De art deco brug werd in 1940 en 1944 grotendeels verwoest. Fotocollectie RHCL Maastricht, GAM 26311.
