Note that in the connective layer, a muscular layer, as well as hemolymphatic spaces, are distributed close to the epithelium. (C) Histology of intestinal lining epithelium exhibiting one cell type presenting two different acidophilia: the weak acidophilic cells and the strong acidophilic cells. (D) PAS histochemistry of the intestinal wall showing the brush border region of epithelial cells (arrowheads) and irregular basement membrane (arrows).
