Description
Nederlands: Deze kaart is afkomstig uit het boek Beschryving van Japan door Engelbert Kaempfer. Kaempfer gaat als de arts van de Nederlandse factorij naar Japan toe en maakt in 1690 de hofreis mee. Zijn boek zal jarenlang als het standaardwerk over Japan blijven fungeren. De kaart is ingedeeld in ‘han’, ofwel de leengebieden van de daimyo, de feodale heersers.
English: This map was included in the book Beschryving van Japan (Description of Japan) by Engelbert Kaempfer. He went to Japan as the trading post doctor and took part in the journey to the Shogun’s court in 1890. For many years, his book was to be the standard work on Japan. The map is divided into ‘hans’ or domains ruled by the daimyos, the feudal lords.
