Picture shows a Marine separating tarpaulin for distribution. Royal Marines from 40 Commando have been ensuring aid reaches people across the island before Storm Maria arrives. The Royal Marines assisted Social Services Relief and the British Red Cross in offloading aid flown into the airport the day before. David Dalgado, British Red Cross, was overseeing the distribution point and ensuring the correct quantities were handed out to the growing queue. He said, "It's been good working with the military to get the aid in, we've needed the aircraft and their security presence to do this." It was vital to get these supplies distributed today before the six O'clock. From that point there is a police enforced movement curfew to allow only vital services transit the roads and ensure everyone is in shelter for the storm. The supplies included shelter packs, water, tinned food, cereal, toiletries and baby care products. Marine Louis McKenna was ensuring the aid was distributed fairly and assisted in unloading the storm battered truck. He said, "Each day presents us with new challenges, it's really important we get this distributed before tonight and get the message out about the next storm." Picture: MOD |
