Summary[edit]
DescriptionMark V Heavy Tank (37169597233).jpg |
British WW1 Heavy Tank Manufacturer:- Metropolitan-Cammell Carriage & Wagon Co.Ltd. Total production:- 400 This WW1 Mark V is a ‘Hermaphrodite’, which was a ‘female’ tank modified to include a ‘male’ artillery sponson. In 1918-1919 a British force was sent to Russia to help Tsarist White forces fight the Bolsheviks. When the British withdrew, their tanks were left behind and in 1919 many of these were captured by the Reds, becoming the first Soviet tanks. They were known as ‘Ricardo’s to the Soviets after their Ricardo 150hp straight six petrol engines. This example would have been one of those vehicles and is now on display in what is best known as Hall 6 of the Kubinka Tank Museum, although its official title is now Pavilion 6 in Area 2 of the Park Patriot museum. Kubinka, Moscow Oblast, Russia. 24th August 2017. |
