Blanc (1854-1889) wordt op deze ets het martelaarschap van de heilige Lucia afgebeeld. Volgens Thuillier (e.a.) (1993) wijst het object aan de knieën van de heilige echter op resten van het rad waarop Catharina werd gemarteld. Deze compositie komt overeen met een gesigneerd en 1627 gedateerd schilderij door Vignon, waarvan de huidige locatie onbekend is. Ook is een tekening met dezelfde compositie bekend die wordt beschouwd als een kopie uit Vignons atelier. Deze tekening bevindt zich in de Bibliothèque Nationale te Parijs, inv. nr. B6.
