Description

The Katydid was a pulsejet-powered US Navy target drone which entered service in 1942 as the T2D2-1, but was re-designated as the KDD-1 in 1946 and later became the KDH-1. With a top speed of 175mph and an endurance of 40 minutes, it could be either catapult launched or dropped from a PBY Catalina. This example was transferred to the Smithsonian Institute from the US Navy in 1966 and is now part of the National Air and Space Museum. It is seen on display in the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Washington Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, Virginia
