English: Baltic Medal 1854-55 (March 1854-August 1855) Medal awarded to Acting Assistant Surgeon Edward d'Auvergne, (HMS Apollo) silver medal; ornate swivel suspension; with ribbon obverse- diademed head of Queen Victoria with the legend VICTORIA REGINA reverse- seated figure of Britannia holding a trident in her right hand and looking over her left shoulder; behind her are depicted the fortresses of Bomarsund and Sveaborg, with the word ‘BALTIC’ above; dated in the exurgue- 1854-1855 ribbon- yellow with blue edges unnamed

Notes Baltic Medal 1854-55 Medal awarded to Surgeon Edward d'Auvergne, (HMS Cruizer) Edward d'Auvergne (1818-1864) Edward d'Auvergne was born in Guernsey on 21.8.1819. He was educated at Elizabeth College, then studied medicine at Guys Hospital, London. In 1841he entered the Royal Navy as an Assistant Surgeon. He served in the China War 1842 and the Baltic War. He attained the rank of Surgeon Commander. He died in Guernsey in 1861 following a prolonged illness contracted while in service. His brother Charles d'Auvergne migrated to New Zealand in 1856 and took up farming at Rangiora.
