English: War Medal 1939-45, WW2 awarded to 412189 Flight Lieutenant Kenneth Henry Becroft, 218 Squadron, Bomber Command, WW2 cupronickel circular medal, 36mm diameter, plain straight non-swivelling suspender, with ribbon and oak leaf clasp obverse- crowned head of King George VI, surrounded by the legend ‘GEORGIUS VI D- G- BR- OM- REX ET INDIAE- IMP-’ Reverse- A lion standing on a dragon with two heads, above are the dates 1939 and 1945 Ribbon- 32mm wide grosgrain ribbon, colours of red, blue and white, repeated in reverse and separated by a thin red band |

Notes | War Medal 1939-45 412189 Flt. Lt. Kenneth Henry Becroft, 218 Squadron 412189 Flight Lieutenant Kenneth Henry Becroft, DFC (1915-1987) RNZAF RAF. Served- UK 218 (Gold Coast) Bomber Squadron then as a flying instructor. Rated as an exceptional pilot. Awarded DFC. Auckland Star report relating to DFC dated 26.10.1943 - "Flying-Officer Becroft as Captain, has completed 30 operations over enemy territory, states the citation. One night in April 1943, he piloted an aircraft detailed to attack Rostock. While crossing the enemy coast his aircraft was hit by flak and one engine and the elevator controls were damaged. Despite this Flying-Officer Becroft continued to his target and carried out a bombing attack. He has displayed great skill, courage and determination. Flying-Officer Becroft was born in Helensville in July, 1915, and was educated at the Helensville primary and district high schools. He was commissioned in December 1942 and promoted to flying-officer last June.” | |||||||||||||||||||||||
