English: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902 with four bars Medal awarded to 520 Private James Henry Escott, 2nd NZMR, 3 Coy. silver medal; four bars; plain straight swivelling suspender; with ribbon obverse- crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX reverse- Britannia with a flag in her left hand and holding out a laurel wreath in her right towards an advancing party of soldiers; in the background are two warships; below the wreath, in two lines- 1899-1900 in relief; around top- SOUTH AFRICA Four bars- SOUTH AFRICA 1901 - ORANGE FREE STATE - JOHANNESBUG - CAPE COLONY ribbon- red with two dark blue stripes and a broad orange central stripe named on edge- J.H. ESCOTT 2ND N.Z. CONT.

Notes Queen's South Africa Medal with four clasps Medal awarded to 520 Private James Henry Escott, 2nd NZMR, 3 Coy. Clasps for- Johannesburg, Cape Colony, Orange Free State and South Africa 1901 Occupation- farmer; address at time of enlistment- Woodville, Wairarapa; next of kin- A Escott (brother) of same address; Died- 28.7.1916; buried- Karori Cemetery, Area 2 Block A, Row 15, Plot 77; previous service- Woodville Rifles; also served with Provisional Transvaal Constabulary; Member of Parliament for Pahiatua 1910-1916. James Henry Escott was 432738 Lieutenant Ken Porter's great-uncle, the brother of Ken's maternal grandmother Harriett Cecelia Escott who married his grandfather George Burton Russell in Wellington on 1 August 1892. QUEEN’S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 11th October 1899-31st May 1902
