English: Queen's Mediterranean Medal 1899-1902, South Africa Medal awarded to 6554 Pte J Farrell, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment circular silver medal; plain straight swivelling suspender; with ribbon obverse- crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX reverse- Britannia with a flag in her left hand holding out a laurel wreath in her right towards an advancing party of soldiers; in the background are two warships; with the legend MEDITERRANEAN ribbon- red with two dark blue stripes and a broad orange central stripe named on edge- 6554 PTE J. FARRELL. L.N. LANC- REGT. markings- obverse- medallist's naem below VR's shoulder reverse- medallist's name below Britannia's feet

Notes Queen's South Africa Mediterranean Medal 1899-1902 Medal awarded to 6554 Pte J Farrell, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. The Mediterranean medal was awarded to men serving in garrisons in the Mediterranean - Malta, Gibraltar and Although the first battalin of the regiment served in South Africa during the Anglo Boer War, the 3rd Battalion (formerly the Royal Lancashire Militia) undertook garrison duty in the Mediterranean in 1900, relieving regular troops for service in South AFrica.
