Notes Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to 12-257 Lieut. William Stanley Stichbury, DCM, Auckland Infantry Battalion, NZEF, WW1. William Stanley (Stan) Stichbury, of Epsom, Auckland, served in Gallipoli from 25 April 1915 until evacuation on 20 December 1915. He participated in the Battle of the Landing, Daisy Patch, Quinn’s Post, and in the advance on the Apex during the August offensive. His sketch map shows the Turkish and Anzac positions near the Apex, in August 1915, while the Range Card shows the direction and distance of objects from No 4 Post. Private Stichbury was promoted to Sergeant-Major and later commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. While in France he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty over the period June 1917-January 1918.
