| Notes | Royal Navy and Army Boxing Association prize medal for Wrestling, No 1 Convalescent Depot, 1919 Awarded to 16-892 Cpl. Michael Hancey, New Zealand Maori Battalion, 2nd Contingent. Michael Hancey of Motukaraka, Hokianga joined up in 1915. He served on Egypt and on the Western Front, and spent several spells in hospital. He received a gunshot wound to the hand in April 1918 and then in November that year was diagnosed with influenza and spent a lengthy period in several hospitals in the United Kingdom. The wrestling match probably took place during February - March 1919, when Corporal Hancey was at the New Zealand Convalescent Depot at Hornchurch. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
