Title |
Medieval : Harness pendant |
||
Description |
English: An almost complete cast copper alloy shield-shaped heraldic harness pendant of medieval date. The front surface of the shield bears an indiscernible design, which looks like a sideways L. The L is infilled with a heavy infill of red enamel. One terminal is serifed, the other is wide. Around the L are patches of raised blue enamel and patches of gilding. These areas are rather less well preserved than the central L. The reverse is undecorated. The sides of the pendant are smooth and the corners are rounded. The remains of a suspension loop project from the top flat edge of the shield shape although the loop itself is damaged and torn. The metal is a dark reddish-brown colour and is quite worn and corroded. Harness pendants of this type date to the 13th or 14th centuries.
The finder has done some research and believes the pendant is of Pierre de Mauley, Var a maunche Gaules. |
