Description
English: Part of a Medieval tinned copper alloy candlestick, hollow octagonally facetted openwork socket with two opposed perforated sides comprising a rectangular perforation below a circular perforation (the dividing bar broken on one side), collared mouth and stepped moulding at inverted conical base with a collared integral rivet or broken stem. Surviving height 41mm. Depth of socket 28mm. Outer width of mouth 24mm. Cf. French examples illustrated in the London Museum Medieval Catalogue plate XXXIX, and discussion on pages 181-2. 14th century.
