Title
Medieval Spur Buckle.
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy spur buckle with an integral plate. Medieval (AD 1250 - AD 1400). Length 69mm (if straightened), maximum width 14mm and 1.6mm thick. Weight 2.86g.

The buckle, including and integral plate is slightly convex on the upper face and flat at the rear. The loop is D-shaped in plan and has a maximum width of 14.0mm. Between the frame and the plate is a large circular pin-hole, 4.0mm in diameter. The plate generally tapers in width from the loop towards the attachment end. Near the loop, the plate exapands to accommodate a circular rivet hole, 2.0mm in diameter. There is a similar but smaller expansion near the attachment end for a second rivet hole of 2.0mm in diameter. The attachment end is sharply pointed. The copper alloy pin is intact and its loop is fully enclosing. The shaft of the pin, which tapers to a rounded point, is convex on the upper surface and flat on the underside. About mid-way along its length, the buckle plate is bent back towards the buckle loop.

The piece is corroded and in poor condition. A patina has not survived.
