Title |
Medieval Spur Buckle |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy
Buckle fragment. Cast single looped buckle with integrally cast flat tapered and round ended plate with two rivet holes of diameter 2.7mm with a larger rectangular aperture of length 5.4mm between them. The latter hole has been rounded enlarged by wear towards its outer end, and must have served to permit adjustment. This object would be apt to serve as a spur buckle, and retains a cast pin looped through an aperture towards the end of the plate (cf Whitehead 1996 page 33, nos 186, 179, 180). Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1400. Length: 39.8mm, Height: 12.6mm, Thickness: 2.2mm, Weight: 2.93gms. |
