Medieval Spur Buckle from Swinhope
Description
English: Copper alloy

Buckle fragment. Cast spur buckle frame with integral plate, retaining the stub of a wire pin looped through an aperture at the fastening end. The plate is broadest where the buckle frame (now lost) emerged and was held to the leather by a rivet which passes through it off centre and is burred to diameter 3mm over a rectangular rove of 7.5 x 5.7mm on the back; the narrower continuation of the plate ends with an expanded oval end. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1500.

Length: 23.8mm, Width: 9.1mm, Thickness (clear of pin at rove): 4.1mm, Weight: 2.02gms.
