Title
Medieval Strap-end ('lyre-shaped')
Description
English: An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy 'lyre-shaped' strap end (1350-1450).

The lyre openwork end is missing.

The strap was secured within the integral box-like trapezoidal plate and was retained by two rivets, one at each corner of the attachment end. One of the rivets is missing and the extant rivet is made of copper-alloy. At the front there is an engraved letter M

This strap end is corroded in places and has a patchy green patina.

Length: 31.73mm; width: 22.47mm; thickness: 6.01mm. Weight: 13.14g.

Fingerlin (1971) dates examples of this type and closely related buckles variously to between the second half of the 14th and the second quarter of the 15th century.
