Title |
Medieval buckle: Single looped buckle |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy buckle dating to the medieval or early post-medieval period. The buckle is roughly circular in plan with a rectangular strap bar extending from the rear of the circular frame. There is a narrowed constriction on the circular frame for housing the pin, which is extant, opposite to which is a notch in the outer frame for the pin to rest in. The pin does not quite reach the pin rest as the tip may be broken. The reverse of the frame is flat, and over all the buckle is in poor condition; it appears to be corroding and may have been in contact with acidic material. This type of buckle may be associated with dagger or sword belts of the later medieval period, and is likely to date from c. AD 1350-1600. |
