Title
Medieval buckle: Single looped buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy single loop buckle with integral plate dating to the medieval period, c. 1250 to 1400 AD. The buckle has a loop for a head with a small protruding knop which acts as a pin rest; the pin is missing. Extending from the back of the buckle frame is a roughly linear plate with collars and rounded swellings forming decorative elements, with three rivet holes spaced down the length. These would have secured the buckle to the strap. Similar examples are listed in Whitehead (1996:34) numbers 195 to 201.
