Title
Medieval buckle: Single looped buckle
Description
English: A copper-alloy single-loop buckle with integral plate, dating from the Medieval period. The rounded loop has a small projection that would have functioned as the pin rest. At the centre of the loop at the junction with the plate is a circular perforation, representing the pin attachment, which is filled with iron corrosion and the stub of the pin. The integral plate has flat surfaces and slightly bevelled edges and tapers to a blunt end opposite to the buckle loop. Two corroded iron rivets sit within holes in the frame. These buckles were in use for many years and date to between AD 1200-1400.
