Medieval buckle
Description
English: Incomplete Medieval tinned copper alloy lyre-shaped buckle or strap-end, broken across both sides below missing trapezoidal socket and comprising elaborate openwork terminal of inverted M-shape with flanking scrolled foliate mouldings with drilled blind holes immediately below break and a bird (possibly an eagle) in the centre, quatrefoil terminal. 33 x >52mm. Cf. similar types in Fingerlin nos.274-6 and 286, and no.237 for the form of the openwork bird. Late 14th/early 15th century.
