Title
Medieval candle holder - side view
Description
English: Lead or lead-alloy candle holder of probable 14th to 15th C. AD date. It is crudely made and simple in form, consisting of a sub-circular bottom plate, measuring 71.1mm diameter, with turned up outer edges, in which there is an intentional gap of 13.2mm. The central ring, which would have held the candle in place, measures 42mm diameter by 18.8mm high and is attached to the bottom plate by the addition of molten lead to the outer join of the two elements. The underside of the bottom plate is flat and has an incised cross, which widens out at the end of its arms and also has a simple internal cross scratched. Weight = 183.67g.
