Title |
Medieval candlestick |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete stem from a late Medieval, copper-alloy candlestick. The stem is hollow and broken just above a moulded, circumferential collar. Below this collar the stem flares out to form a flat base. A further, short length of stem issues from the centre of the base and would have served as a spigot to attach the stem through a hole in the base of the candlestick. This spigot has been peened over to secure it under the base. The base and the remainder of the stem and holder are missing.
Comparable candlesticks can be seen in Egan, The Medieval Household, pages 136-139. |
