Title
Medieval copper alloy buckle frame
Description
English: Medieval copper alloy buckle, probably of mid 12th to 14th century date

The buckle frame is complete but missing the pin (with a length of 20.8mm, a width of 22.7mm and a weight of 3.0g). The buckle has an oval frame with ornate outside edge. The outside edge is widened (at 4.5mm) and comprises a projecting knop at each end, with horizontal ribbing between. The sides are of sub-rectangular section and the bar is off-set and narrowed, of sub-circular section (1.9mm diameter). The rear of the buckle is flat. The surface has a dark brown patina.

The buckle can be paralleled with an example excavated in London (Egan & Pritchard, 1991, p 74, no. 299), recovered from a mid to late 13th century context.
