Medieval copper alloy purse bar
Description
English: A medieval copper alloy purse bar which consists of a an oval suspension loop at the top, central boss and bar. The boss at the centre of the bar is shield shaped and has a linear decoration on one side in the form of two inverted intertwining 'V's. The other side of the boss has three niello triangles arranged in the form of a Tau cross. The ends of the bar have broken away on each side, one end has broken away more than the other. The item dates from the 14th to the 15th centuries. A similar example can be seen in the Salisbury Museum catalogue, fig 27, number 170, p134.
