Title
Medieval harness pendant suspension mount
Description
English: Unusual decorated harness pendant suspension mount. It is made from a bar with a low D section, now rather bent, with a rectangular-section panel at either end with a rivet hole to fix it to the harness; beyond this is a long narrow terminal. The mount expands in the centre to form an ?oval field which is decorated with four sunken heart-shaped motifs each with a pellet in the centre. In the middle is an engraved double-strand cross. There are traces of ?white-metal coating or possible inlay. To one side the bar is further extended, folded over and with a slot cut; a copper-alloy hinge bar and the loop of the pendant itself survive. The whole object is very worn and corroded and the details of the decoration are hard to read. Length as bent, 37 mm; width of bar 9 mm; width including hinge,22 mm; probable original length c. 75 mm.
