Title
Medieval lead-filled copper-alloy steelyard weight
Description
English: Incomplete and undecorated globular copper alloy steelyard weight with a lead core. Total height 60mm, diameter 56mm. Weight 1lb 1-1/8 ounces (490g). In the centre of the top is an integrally cast sub-triangular lug (7mm thick) with a sub-circular perforation. The base of the weight is flattened and on the base are two linear grooves which form a right angle. These impressions may be casting imperfections. On the surface is a damaged area of about two square centimetres where the lead core is exposed. The overall surface has a mid-brown patina dappled with small patches of bronze disease.
