Medieval personal seal matrix
Description
English: Medieval seal matrix; cast copper alloy circular seal matrix of probable 14th century date. The seal face has a design in the centre which is rather difficult to decipher but seems to be a duck swimming right (once the seal is impressed). The inscription around the edge reads “CREDE MICHI” which translates as “believe me”. The back face of the seal matrix has a suspension loop near the top in the form of a long, low, curved lug pierced with a circular hole. Diameter 15.2mm, thickness (inc loop) 6.6mm, thickness (plate only) 3.1mm, weight 3.70g
