Title
Medieval reliquary cross pendant from Devon
Description
English: Medieval copper alloy reliquary pendant dating from 1400- 1500 AD. Please see the Treasure Report, below, by J P Robinson.

One half of a medieval reliquary pendant in the shape of a Tau Cross. It has a suspension loop mounted on a small sphere and its surface is decorated with four scalloped settings that contain glass pastes. On the bottom is a broken loop that may have formed the method of attachment for the back plate.

The reliquary dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century and is made of gilt copper alloy. Since the thin layer of gilding does not constitute 10% of the volume of the find, this object does not conform to the definition of "Treasure" according to the Treasure Act 1997.
