Title
Medieval to Post Medieval Candlestick
Description
English: The base from a cast copper alloy candlestick of probable late medieval or early post medieval date. The hollow base is circular, 79.4mm in maximum diameter, 21.9mm in height and around 2.5mm in thickness. It weighs 108g. It is slightly wider at its base than at the top (diameter 72.6mm). The upper surface has a slightly raised outside edge and central roundel and in the middle of this there is a circular perforation, 11.4mm in diameter. The only decoration is in the form of incised parallel circumferential linears, two on the side and two on the upper surface, all bordering edges. The candlestick base is of the 'bunsen' type and probably dates from c. 1400-1550.
