Description |
English: Halibut fishermen kept their catch on ice until they could bring it in to port. The steamers stayed at sea for about a week, depending on how well their ice supply held up. When they returned to port, the men unloaded the fish, cleaned up, and got ready for the next trip.
This photo shows men unloading halibut in wheelbarrows at an unidentified port on Puget Sound. A dory sits at the edge of the dock. The fish are probably from the halibut steamer "Independent" or "Polaris," and the photo was probably taken between 1902 and 1927.
