Description |
English: Flint single-platform blade core, ovate in plan, triangular in profile and trapezoidal in section. Flakes have been removed all of the way around the circumference of the core, from the platform edge, and only a very thin layer of cortex remains on a small part (about 15 mm) of the edge.
The flint is a mottled light grey colour and may have been derived from a local beach pebble which has since been exposed to heat and cold so that the colour of the flint has become lighter. The core has also been in contact with iron which has left staining on most of the edges. The length to breadth ratio is about 1:2. Bond (2004) illustrates similar examples on page 120, Fig.5.104, No.71, dated to the later Mesolithic period, and on page 138, Fig.5.125, No.F4, dated to the earlier Neolithic. |
