Title |
microblade (dorsal) |
||
Description |
English: Flint four-sided microblade or microlith, rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section, with a backed left margin of the dorsal face, and a retouched right margin, parallel to the left. The distal and proximal ends have both been snapped off to create squared-off parallel ends, which may have made it easier for multiple hafting of bladelets side by side to create one cutting edge.
The colour of the flint is a mottled orange to light brown, and there is a small segment of cortex remaining on the left margin of the dorsal face, towards the proximal end, which suggests the that the flake was derived from a local beach pebble. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 119, Fig.5.103, No.50, which is dated to the Later Mesolithic. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example which is classified as Clark's Type D on page 93, Fig.35, No.19, which is dated to the Mesolithic period. |
