Description
Deutsch: Mijn oververgrootvader Charles Henry Joseph De Souter was oorlogsvrijwilliger van bij het begin van de oorlog tot in 1918. Hij heeft verschillene keren in het cachot gezeten en had een strafblad. Hij urineerde onder andere tegen de barakken maar hij kwam na de oorlog ook op voor de erkenning van de oorlogsvrijwilligers.

Hij werd in 1930 erkend als oorlogsvrijwilliger. Charles heeft aan de Ijzer gevochten.

Hij kreeg na de oorlog een uitkering als oorlogsinvalide. Tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog kreeg hij een invaliditeitsuitkering en een attest om overal te mogen passeren.

Charles overleed in 1945 aan de gevolgen van zijn verwondingen uit de eerste wereldoorlog.

Hij werd begraven in Deurne op het militair gedeelte van de begraafplaats.
