Title
Modern: Toy gun
Description
English: A late 19th or early 20th century complete toy pistol. The pistol has been made in imitation of guns of the 18th or earlier 19th century; The outer shell is a lead or tin alloy and the mechanism is of iron or a similar metal, which is now rusted. The pistol is extensively decorated with cast foliate shapes and other motifs. In front of the cocking mechanism is a circular receptacle to take a charge of powder. This is a type of toy pistol thought to be of late 19th to early 20th century date and which were manufactured by Gamage. cf SWYOR-72AD14 There are a number of similar pistols erroneously dated on this database to earlier centuries.
