Title
Modern Toy Soldier from Tetney
Description
English: Lead alloy

Toy Soldier fragment. Drum, leg and ankle of a hollow-cast toy soldier. The high quality of execution indicates this is a product of William Britain's, the leading British manufacturers of toy soldiers in the first half of the 20th century. The leg is broken at the top of an ankle boot, suggesting this to be an earlier example - from the late 1890s to about 1920. After the First World War, ankle boots were replaced by straight-legged trousers in military full dress, a development mirrored by Britain's later models. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1920.

Length: 27.7mm, Width: 12.9mm, Weight: 11.64gms.
