Descrição/ Tema: Monumento de arte contemporânea, composto por um busto moldado em bronze, monocromático, sustentado por um extenso elemento parietal em granito, com uma inscrição em letras capitais do séc. XX, mostrando um excerto do discurso proferido por Jacinto Cândido da Silva em 13 de Novembro de 1892. O busto retrata o homenageado, denunciando inspiração naturalista ao mesmo tempo que não se afasta muito do cânones estéticos de um “modernismo moderado”, defendidos por António Ferro. Encontra-se dentro da linha de orientação inicial do artista, mas difere do movimento formal e cromático, com valorização da cor, que Martins Correia virá a assumir na maior parte das suas obras, que encontram referências nas do escultor italiano Marino Marini, seu contemporâneo, com trabalhos essencialmente em bronze policromado. Segundo Martins Correia “A cor obriga o homem a ter avanço, beleza, a confiança. Tudo se transforma em cor. As formas já têm cor e cada uma delas está definida pelo material”. Historial: Em 1958 a Câmara Municipal de Penamacor mandou erigir o monumento ao Conselheiro Jacinto Cândido da Silva (1857–1926), ligado a Penamacor pelo casamento com D. Balbina Menezes Pita, natural desta terra, fundadora do “Patronato” – casa de protecção para raparigas pobres. Jacinto Cândido da Silva era natural de Angra do Heroismo, Açores. Estudou Direito na Universidade de Coimbra e praticou advocacia durante algum tempo em Lisboa, regressando depois aos Açores onde deu aulas num liceu, dedicou-se à política, sendo eleito deputado pelos Açores em 1886, o que proporcionou o seu regresso ao Continente. Fundou o Partido Nacionalista, foi conselheiro de Estado, e Ministro da Marinha e do Ultramar entre 26-11-1895 e 07-02-1897, dando um grande contributo à Marinha com um plano de renovação da Armada.
